The 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, an active airborne infantry unit of the U.S. Army, is also known as the “Red Currahee.” It is part of the 1st Brigade Combat Team and is assigned to the 101st Airborne Division. The regiment, including the 1st Battalion, has a rich history. Originally serving as the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment during World War II, it is renowned for its role in events depicted in the book and miniseries Band of Brothers.
